Unspoken Words

by Dee Price

The Holodeck was festive this night. Neelix had arranged a Party . . . a no particular reason party . . . and there was a cacophony of talk, laughter, music and dancing. Everyone present was having a night of fun and relaxation. Tom, B'Elanna, Harry, Tuvok, the Captain and Chakotay were all at one table, with the Captain and Chakotay sitting across from one another. Both were rather quiet, but occasionally glanced across the table at the other.

Tom suddenly stood and after asking the Captain to dance, suggested Chakotay dance with B'Elanna. The foursome moved out onto the dance floor, with Kathryn and Tom smiling as they danced away, while Chakotay and B'Elanna felt awkward. Tom soon steered the Captain near Chakotay and B'Elanna and suggested a change of partners.

Chakotay took Kathryn's hand and gently placed his free hand on her waist as she lightly laid her hand on his shoulder. They were quiet for a few steps and then looked at one another. The looks deepened until no one else in the room existed and all sound ceased to be heard. They were aware of only each other.

Slowly, almost imperceptibly, they moved closer until their bodies lightly touched and gradually full, hard contact was made. They continued to look into the other's eyes and Chakotay moved his hand to the small of Kathryn's back and she moved her hand onto his neck and then slowly up into the back of his head, with her little finger drifting and touching his ear. The exquisite feeling of those small movements made their bodies shudder against each other.

Their looks intensified, their pupils dilated, and then Kathryn slowly laid her head on Chakotay's chest while he placed his cheek and chin on her head, nuzzled deep into her hair and inhaled the fragrance of her Apple Blossom shampoo. They both tightened their arms around each other and pressed their bodies even closer, as they continued to move to the un-heard music.

Then, they slowly moved their heads; their bodies gently separated; and once again they looked into each other's eyes. Gradually the sound of the room returned and they again heard the music, the babble of conversation and laughter. The music stopped and Chakotay escorted Kathryn back to her seat.

Quickly Chakotay returned to his chair and after sitting down they once again looked across the table at one another. A touch of a smile played at one corner of each of their lips in unspoken acceptance of what had just happened.

Everyone in the room, while acting oblivious to the event that had just transpired, had all been keenly aware of the magic they had just seen. They had just witnessed their own fairy tale.

Like a tight rosebud that opens up to its full magnificence and fragrance, they had just seen the blossoming and unspoken acknowledgement of deep love. They had just observed . . . two becoming one.
